Our house
A home away from home ...
...these words come from a quote by one of our regular guests – and that's a good thing! Because that's exactly what we had in mind when we opened our small, family-run apartment hotel over thirty years ago – to offer travelers from all over the world a temporary home away from home, combined with the amenities of a hotel. Incidentally, they also appreciate the fact that they reside like "real Viennese" in a beautiful building from the late nineteenth century Founder´s Era.
In keeping with this style, the house has been partly furnished with antiques from that period. This probably accounts for much of the flair that our guests love.
The apartments – suitable for 2-4 people – all have an entrance hall, a bedroom, a fully equipped kitchen, a bathroom with a shower or bath, a living room with a double sofa bed, comfortable seating and a cozy atmosphere that makes you feel at home.
The smaller studios offer a living room/bedroom, a bathroom with shower, fully equipped kitchens and are suitable for a maximum of two people.
We have often wondered why so many of our visitors become regular guests and keep coming back to our charming jewel. Perhaps it is, among other things, due to the family atmosphere, the personal attention, or the insider tips they sometimes listen to over a cup of tea or coffee or a glass of wine in our cozy breakfast room?
By the way, for those who wish, we gladly offer a breakfast buffet in this comfortable room, which combines the concept of the house – "being at home away from home" – with the luxury of a hotel.
We look forward to welcoming you soon!
Yours sincerely,
Valerie Kadanka and the Apartment Team

"I love this neighborhood more than anything. This neighborhood has always been something special for me ... I do well here, I see opportunities here, this is where life is, this is where I want to live. To have a room here, all alone and to devote myself to an activity, to think, to keep a diary ..."
Heimito von Doderer - Die Strudlhofstiege
The Strudlhof Stairs
Die Strudlhofstiege (the Strudlhof Stairs) is not only the title of the most famous work by the Viennese author Heimito von Doderer. It is a romantic, beautiful staircase, adorned with a fountain and located just a stone's throw (500 meters) from our house. Taking a stroll past it is certainly not a mistake! – Perhaps with a book or even Doderer's novel?
The Summerstage
A mere 20-minute walk from our house takes you to the Summerstage – a green oasis on the Vienna Danube Canal. Here, you will find urban summer vibes with beach volleyball under palm trees, culinary delights and cocktails, garnished by concerts, interesting exhibitions, and entertaining literary evenings. We love it!
Liechtenstein Park
Liechtenstein Park is located just opposite of our house. It is still owned by the princely family, but is open to the public during the day. Originally laid out as a baroque garden at the beginning of the 18th century, it was later redesigned as a landscape garden. Although the park is not huge, it offers a wonderful green space for relaxation. There is also a very nice children's playground on the premises. Today, the Liechtenstein Garden Palace is home to one of the most important private art collections in the world.
Servite Quarter
Few neighborhoods boast such a high density of cultural venues and architectural monuments as the Servite Quarter, which is within walking distance of us. Top-class musical performances – from baroque to jazz – take place here, especially during the summer months. Here, the diverse culinary offerings can be perfectly combined with cultural enjoyment or a shopping spree. The specialty market on Thursdays has also become a communicative meeting place for the neighborhood. You should definitely not miss that!
The Volksoper
The Volksoper – Vienna’s “People’s Opera” – is about a 15-minute walk from our hotel. Colorful, multifaceted, and lively, it is the second-largest opera house in the city, and the only one dedicated to the operetta genre. However, operas, musicals and ballet performances are also regularly on the program.
The Schauspielhaus theater
Less than 10 minutes from our house, you will find the highest level of theatrical art. The Schauspielhaus offers many extravagant productions. The repertoire includes contemporary plays that are thought-provoking and often contain socially critical, politically involved elements.
ASite of the Old General Hospital (Old AKH)
The area of the first General Hospital with its numerous courtyards now houses parts of various institutes of the University of Vienna, but above all several gastronomic establishments – such as the Stiegl-Ambulanz or the Salettl am Campus. During Christmas season, a Christmas market is set up in one of the courtyards, and in the warm season, you can relax on the benches and green spaces. On the grounds of the Old General Hospital stands the so-called Narrenturm, the Fools’ Tower, where you can see parts of the world's largest pathological-anatomical collection. This, however, this is not for the faint-hearted.
General Hospital of the City of Vienna (AKH)
Guests who have come to Vienna for medical reasons – either because they need treatment themselves or are accompanying their relatives – appreciate the proximity of our hotel to the AKH. After all, it is one of the largest and most renowned hospitals in Europe and home to the Medical University of Vienna.
Embassies
Both the US Embassy (2 min. walking distance) and the Swedish Embassy (10 min. walking distance) are just a stone's throw away from our hotel. Many other embassies, such as those of the Sultanate of Oman or the Republic of Slovenia, are also very close by.
Public transportation
The subway line U4, which takes you directly to the center of Vienna (State Opera), is about a 7-minute walk away. The subway line U6 is only a 5-minute walk away. Tram lines 5, 33, 37 and 38 are just around the corner. With these, you can reach almost all interesting parts of Vienna – such as the Vienna Prater, the traffic hub Schottentor and thus the Ringstraße, which surrounds the city center (1st district), the AKH and many more. The 40A bus stop is right in front of our building. This will take you to Berggasse, with its many restaurants and the Sigmund Freud Museum.
